Flying back from Kaohsiung to Narita on EVA Air.
Taiwan, an island nation off the southeastern coast of China, is a vibrant destination known for its stunning natural landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and bustling modern cities. The capital, Taipei, blends modern skyscrapers like Taipei 101 with historic temples, lively night markets, and world-class museums. Beyond the urban centers, Taiwan’s natural beauty shines with breathtaking spots like Taroko Gorge’s marble canyons, Sun Moon Lake’s serene waters, and the dramatic peaks of Alishan, famous for its sunrises and misty forests. The island’s coastline offers scenic beaches and rugged cliffs, while smaller offshore islands like Penghu and Green Island provide additional escapes. Taiwan is also a food lover’s paradise, with dishes like beef noodle soup, xiao long bao, and bubble tea reflecting its culinary diversity. Known for its warm hospitality, efficient transportation, and mix of tradition and modernity, Taiwan offers an unforgettable travel experience for visitors.
Here are some of the photos I captured during my visits. Enjoy your virtual tour!

Stunning view of Taipei on my way back from Kaohsiung. At the bottom right, you can clearly see Taipei 101. Would have been a perfect picture without the smudge on the window!

Last evening in Kaoshiung, Taiwan: enjoying local beverages – Taiwan Beer ! Taiwan Beer is an iconic beverage from Taiwan, produced by the Taiwan Tobacco and Liquor Corporation (TTL). Introduced in 1946, it has become a symbol of Taiwan’s beer culture and is beloved for its refreshing and approachable taste. One of its standout features…
The Liuhe Night Market is the “tourist” night market of Kaohsiung. The highlight of the market is seafood: there are many stands selling, crab, shrimp, octopus, and squid. Some stands are actually restaurants and you can pick the fresh seafood you want and walk to the back and sit at a table to eat. Sitting…
Taiwanese delicacy in Kaohsiung: snake soup, snake meat and grilled snake skin. Was actually good! Didn’t notice any of the supposed effects though (read, in the pants area). Two possible explanations: I am naturally very “healthy” or my condition is beyond help ;-)
Ruifeng Night Market or Rueifong Night Market, is the largest night market in Kaohsiung & Pingtung. Even though it isn’t quite as famous as the Liouhe Night Market (more on that later), it is certainly a popular night market that has been favored by the locals for over 20 years. Just like every other Taiwan…
Xiahai Chenghuan Temple (霞海城隍廟) near the conference center in Kaohsiung. A bit spooky, loved it! I’m quite sure I’m the only delegate who paid the temple a visit :)
Stroll around the Hotel in Kaohsiung at night. A bit of history: Kaohsiung is Taiwan’s second largest city and its largest port. Although the ranking has declined steadily over the last few years, Kaohsiung is still the world’s sixth largest cargo-container seaport. The city has high concentrations of heavy industry, including steel production, shipbuilding, and…
The perfect name for a 3GPP meeting location.
I dislike the emergency row for quite a few reasons: 1) no place to stow your bag which always end up in the overhead compartment for take-off and landing; 2) table is located in the armrest, reducing the seat width and therefore comfort especially during long-haul flights; 3) leg room can be worse than regular…
