Filming

Japan is a place that never stops inspiring me, from its bustling cities to its quiet countryside. I usually stick to photography—it’s my comfort zone and what I enjoy most—but once in a while, I’ll take the time to create a video. It takes more effort, but it’s worth it to capture the motion and energy of Japan’s streets, festivals, or changing seasons. Whether it’s the glow of Tokyo at night or the calm of a shrine in the morning, videos add another layer to the story.

Coming of Age

Coming of Age

Sunny day for the 2023 edition of the Coming of Age in Tokyo. This year I decided to make a short video in Meiji Jingu but wanted to travel light. So no tripod, no Ninja recorder, no gimbal and no bazooka. Just the Canon R6 set in HDR at 60fps, a VideoMic NTG and the…

New Year in Asakusa

Leisurly stroll around the Senso Ji temple for the new year. The difference from a few months back is striking: the foreign tourists are back ! Big Thunder Mountain

Big Thunder Mountain

I wanted to see how well the GoPro Hero11 would work on a roller coaster so I gave it a try at Tokyo Disneyland. Conclusion: it works quite well in bright places but quite poorly in dark areas. Still, the stabilisation remains remarkable given how shaky the whole scene was. Big Thunder Mountain at Tokyo…

Akiba Maids

Akiba Maids

This part of Akihabara is known as Electric Town but Maid City is perhaps more apropriate ! Akiba maids, often seen in Akihabara, Tokyo’s famous district known for electronics, anime, and otaku culture, are a unique and colorful aspect of Japanese subculture. These young women, dressed in elaborate, Victorian-inspired maid costumes, are part of a…

Hero 11 on Yamanote

Hero 11 on Yamanote

This is my first GoPro and to quickly check how it performs in 10-bit color space , I rode the JR Yamanote line between Sugamo and Akihabara (Akiba) on a sunny autumn afternoon. Quite happy with the results: with 10-bit color and an HDR workspace (I use FCPX), it is possible to make some adjustments…

Sensoji Temple

Sensoji Temple

A late summer afternoon in Asakusa is a pleasant time for a walk around Sensoji Temple. The sun is low, casting a warm light over the temple grounds, and the air feels just a bit cooler as evening approaches. The Kaminarimon Gate and the pagoda look especially vibrant in the soft light, while Nakamise Street…

Tokyo Midtown

Tokyo Midtown

My second attempt at making a 4K HDR video. This time I did not mess up the color space when recording and I read the white paper on HDR and Wide Color Gamut in Final Cut Pro [link] from Apple. This should improve the end results. At least on my HDR display it does! Hope…

Shibuya Crossing

Shibuya Crossing

I wanted to try shooting HDR videos for sometime but 4K was just too heavy to handle for my old iMac. Since it recently died (after 8 years of heavy daily use – rest in peace my friend), its replacement (M1 processor and HDR display) gave me an opportunity to give it a shot. So…
