The Panasonic Lumix LX100 is a compact, high-performance camera that has gained a dedicated following for its large sensor, fast zoom lens, and extensive manual controls—all packed into a portable body. This review explains why the LX100 is a go-to choice for street photographers, travelers, and enthusiasts who want DSLR-like quality in a pocket-sized package.
At the heart of the LX100 is a 12.8-megapixel Micro Four Thirds sensor—significantly larger than the typical sensors found in compact cameras. This larger sensor delivers excellent image quality with impressive detail, rich color, and good dynamic range. Combined with Panasonic’s powerful Venus Engine, the LX100 maintains clean images with reduced noise, even at higher ISOs (up to 25,600), making it a strong performer in low-light conditions.
The LX100’s integrated Leica DC Vario-Summilux lens has a fast f/1.7-2.8 aperture, ideal for achieving beautiful background blur and excellent low-light performance. With a 24-75mm equivalent focal range, this lens covers everything from wide-angle landscapes to medium telephoto portraits, providing versatility for a wide range of shooting scenarios. The lens also has built-in optical image stabilization (OIS), which enhances handheld shooting stability and minimizes blur, even in low light.
For videographers, the LX100 is capable of 4K UHD video recording at up to 30fps, delivering sharp, vibrant footage with reliable autofocus and solid color performance. Panasonic’s 4K Photo mode, a unique feature of the LX100, lets photographers extract high-resolution stills from 4K video, ideal for capturing fast-moving moments. While it lacks a microphone input, the LX100’s compact design and 4K capabilities make it a great choice for casual video work and travel vlogging.
One of the LX100’s most beloved features is its extensive manual controls, which include dedicated dials for aperture, shutter speed, and exposure compensation. These controls provide a tactile, DSLR-like experience, giving photographers quick and easy access to essential settings. The camera also features a high-resolution 2.76-million-dot electronic viewfinder (EVF), providing a clear, accurate preview for composing shots, as well as a 3-inch LCD screen, although it’s fixed and lacks touch functionality.
The LX100 is compact and portable, with a sturdy metal body that feels solid and reliable. Weighing only 393g, it’s easy to carry anywhere, making it a perfect travel companion or everyday camera. While it’s not weather-sealed, the LX100’s robust design and compact form factor make it well-suited for a variety of environments.
For photographers and videographers who want DSLR-like performance in a compact form, the Panasonic Lumix LX100 offers an exceptional balance of quality, speed, and portability. Its blend of a large sensor, fast lens, 4K video capabilities, and manual controls makes it a standout option in the compact camera category.

Tripod and LX100 : how to kill time at 05:30 on a beautiful morning in Dubrovnik.
Hard to resist, even for the briefest of visit: roasted peanuts and liquorice-based sweets. Note the health-conscious choice of drink though ;-)
I started enjoying these 0:50 flight from Haneda. By the time I sit in the plane, I am always so tired that I manage to sleep 6~7 hours straight, even in monkey class.
Very tempting, especially the big red ones!
When service extends beyond basic duties. Western airlines, especially American ones have so much to learn.
