Yamanashi

Yamanashi Prefecture, located just west of Tokyo, is a region of stunning natural beauty, famous for its iconic views of Mount Fuji and its rich cultural heritage. Known as the home of Japan’s wine industry and some of the country’s best hot springs, Yamanashi offers a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. The Fuji Five Lakes area, including Lake Kawaguchi, is a must-visit for breathtaking views of Mount Fuji, especially during cherry blossom season or with autumn’s vibrant colors reflected in the water. The area is also popular for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and cycling. Yamanashi is renowned for its fruit orchards, particularly grapes, peaches, and plums, with seasonal fruit-picking experiences being a highlight for visitors. The prefecture’s Koshu wine, made from native grapes, is celebrated nationwide. Don’t miss out on the local specialty, houtou—a hearty noodle soup perfect for chilly days. Historic sites like the Erin-ji Temple and the Shosenkyo Gorge offer glimpses into Yamanashi’s cultural depth and natural splendor. Whether you’re soaking in an onsen with Mount Fuji as a backdrop or enjoying the quiet charm of rural villages, Yamanashi is a destination that leaves a lasting impression. Here are some of the photos I captured during my visits. Enjoy your virtual tour!

Lens Flare

When sunlight streams directly into the lens, creating flares and softening the image, it can add a magical quality to certain subjects. The subdued colors and reduced contrast lend a dreamy, nostalgic vibe, which works beautifully for a temple. The soft, golden light of the early afternoon streaming through the trees added a peaceful and almost magical atmosphere to the shrine. A perfect moment to reflect while discovering what the omikuji had in store.

Snow Police

Snow was coming down hard on the highway, with a speed limit set at 50km/h for safety—but that didn’t stop these guys from cruising along at 70, and everyone else just kept pace like it was the norm! A little nerve-wracking, but I guess it’s all part of the adventure in snowy driving conditions.

Sengen Jinja

The Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja (北口本宮冨士浅間神社) holds a deep historical and spiritual connection to Mount Fuji. Once the traditional starting point for climbers approaching the mountain from the north, the shrine’s trailhead still exists behind the right side of the main hall. However, with modern infrastructure, most climbers now begin their journey from the…
