Kawagoe

Kawagoe, located just north of Tokyo in Saitama Prefecture, is a charming city known for its nostalgic atmosphere and beautifully preserved Edo-period architecture. Often referred to as “Little Edo,” Kawagoe allows visitors to step back in time with its Kurazukuri Street, lined with traditional clay-walled warehouses and historic buildings. The iconic Toki no Kane, or Bell of Time, is a symbol of the city and still chimes to mark the passing hours. Kawagoe is also famous for its Candy Alley, a lively street filled with shops selling traditional Japanese sweets and snacks, perfect for sampling local flavors. Visitors can explore Kawagoe Hikawa Shrine, known for its romantic charm and beautiful wooden architecture, or enjoy seasonal festivals that bring the streets to life. With its blend of history, culture, and quaint shopping experiences, Kawagoe offers a delightful escape that feels like a journey to Japan’s past.
