Commuting Scenes
Testing out my new 42.5mm lens on the trains and subways offered a perfect mix of candid moments and vibrant details. The tight focal length and wide f/1.2 aperture let me isolate subjects beautifully, from a passenger lost in thought to the texture of a worn-out handrail. The creamy bokeh transformed the background clutter of a crowded carriage into an artistic blur. The dynamic lighting of subway stations—harsh fluorescents, soft natural light filtering through gaps, or neon reflections on train windows—brought out the lens’s sharpness and versatility. Capturing motion blur as a train whizzed past or the stillness of an empty platform after rush hour made for diverse shots. It’s the kind of lens that turns the ordinary into something cinematic, and the subway was the perfect testing ground.
