Sunny Day

After nearly a month of relentless rain and typhoon weather, I finally took the M11 out for a walk. I ended up in front of Tokyo Station, one of those places that photographers return to again and again, partly because it photographs well and partly because it makes finding a subject almost effortless. The red-brick façade stood out against the cleaner tones around it, with people drifting through the frame and adding just enough movement to keep things interesting.

For this outing, I shot wide open with the 50mm Summilux. It remains one of those lenses that rewards a bit of patience and occasionally forgives a lack of it. The shallow depth of field helped separate subjects from the busy surroundings, while still keeping enough context to tell the story of the place.What continues to impress me is the colour rendering. The tones feel rich without looking exaggerated, and small details seem to stand forward naturally.

Standing there in the rare sunshine, camera in hand, it was a reminder that sometimes the best photo walk is simply the one that finally happens.
